The mission of CARES (Community Assistance Resources and Extended Services, Inc.) is to assist children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities (ID/DD) and/or mental health conditions and their families, in particular, from under-served multilingual communities, access information, obtain resources and services.
Salary Range: $18-$20/hr Location: Lower East Side, NY, NY & Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
DSP/Driver is responsible for picking up individuals from home in the morning and driving them to and from day program. At the end of the day the driver will drive individuals back home. The driver will also be responsible to help throughout the day, including but not limited to interacting and socializing with individuals and driving both individuals and staff on trips. The driver will also be responsible for maintaining a clear record of times individuals are picked up and dropped off. The driver will also be responsible for at least one individual and will have to complete all paperwork pertaining to said individual.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Driving the vehicle in a manner that ensures the safety of all passengers.
- Supervision of individuals up to and including the securing of seat belts
- Reporting any mechanical failures at the end of each run
- Must be able to meet and interact with employees and parents/guardians in routine situations, which require tact, discretion, and courtesy
- Communicate with a variety of people (e.g. individuals, other DSPSs, parents and/or guardians) for the purpose of providing and/or acquiring information relating to job functions.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
- High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree preferred.
- 25+ years old
- Clean driving record
- NY State Driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly.
